Rebuild - Part 3

Sorry been quite busy with work and travels.
Well the engine is now off SP. As suspected the previous engine officially died due to loss of bearing on con rod no 4. Didnt take any pictures, so couldnt show the extent of the damage.

Got my pistons and rods, all forged. The new engine will feature, head studs, main bolts and rod bolts all from ARP. I will be running a different induction system now, details which I do not want to reveal now, but some will be familiar with JD.

Hopefully SP can be ready in a month or two's time as it has been out of action since last year November, so I am very keen to drive it again. The build is going on slow, but usually its worth the wait for good things to happen, so I hope!

Got more Ti bolts too, currently for all the oil sump bolts and camber adjustment plates (pillow ball mount) on my Ohlins. Set me back more then Rm500 just for these!! Got more bolts planned, but these will be custom made in Grade 5 Ti to lighten SP further.

I am intending to get my oil sump baffled, but not sure who is able to do it locally? Any suggestions?
Hopefully more pictures next time!

firdaus,

Yes.

How is ur GTi getting on?

Firdaus Asri said...

Still the same nothing much being done. Next project would be ARB and shims and tyres. Still saving :)

shims? whats that for? Negative camber?

The GTi will be rocking with those mods on for sure!!!

Because the car running on twist beam, VW induce more toe in on the rear to make it safe. Shims, basically something like camber screw will neutralise it back. Still way below your league bro :)

at last =)

p/s: love the piston.

akatsuki,

thank you. The pistons had to be remachined with deeper valve pockets and recoated, due to my mistake of not informing Wiseco of the valve lift of my new JUN cams. They look slightly different now. Will take pictures when I hv some time.

Have you run in your car?
