Daily Driver

It's time to get a daily beater as I'm getting old and want a comfy conventional car that I can cruise around. Slowly... The SP just hates going slow and pottling around in traffic is a pain due to the on-off effect of the lightweight flywheel and big cams. It's like trying to take your pet Lion for a walk in the park if you get the drift. Want a 4 door banger that handles reasonably well and doesn't look like it just came from a senior folk's home. Budget's 100K max as spending more means I won't have enough moolah to continue the development of the SP. Currently in my top 2 list are the Nissan Sentra 1.6 Manual (Hoorah!) and the Suzuki Swift. Suggestions, comments and opinions? Wifey's dead against me getting another Proton. Don't suggest the Chevie Optra as wifey already has one and also not the Vios as I talked her out of buying it to get the Optra instead. And no offence to Honda City owners but that car reminds me of something from the frog family possibly a tadpole..

hmmm... a 4 door daily beater under RM100K. That's tough, cos all the cars have bad QC and very flimsy components. It goes to both the cars that you've strucked out; the Vios and City.
The Suzuki Swift is a good choice but lacks on boot space. The Nissan is darn reliable and has a manual tranny.... yummy.

I would suggest a 2004/5 Toyota Altis 1.8G if you don't mind it being 2nd hand. Great quality car and lots of torque. Slap on some bodykit/skirting + lowering and 17" rims.... walah =)

the swift in white with white 16's low pros and a nice kit with soft sounding low extremely muffled hum of an exhaust ;D

Guys,

Would prefer not to buy a s/hand car. And remember it's a daily driver so no or minimal mods..

Here's the problem I'm having with the Swift:

1. Apparently there's going to be a price increase (so much for NAP)
2. End of next year or 2008 the Swift will be available in CKD form. This will make the already not so good second value worse.

Anyway the salesman there's no avail car for test drive the SA said he'll call me up for a test drive when a car's avail but it's been more than a week and no calls..

how bout a jazz?

The Jazz is cute, has a very smooth CVT gb and fuel efficient engine. But under RM100K, it's just a bone-stock iDSI model. If u ask me, it rides too high and has some chassis + handling issue.

The Hyundai Getz 1.6 is not bad, forgetting the Korean badge and 2nd hand resale value. My bro drives 1 and its mustard yellow hehe. Solid feel and strong engine.

The Jazz iDSi also takes 14 sec to go from 0 to 100km/h. Bad..

All,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've finally bitten the bullet and booked the Nissan Sentra 1.6 SG manual complete with full Nismo bodykit. Will be registering it next week.

BTW.. did you know the new price of the Swift is now RM87K! Unbelievable..

Andrew

What about the Colt Mivec? That's around 100K right.

Sean,

Closer to RM110K lar.. Way over the top for a 1.5 litre people mover. I also considered the Toyota Yaris but again over priced IMHO..
