Rebuild

During HPC last week, I think I have spun a con rod bearing or damaged the bearings somehow. Mid way through the last session, the car started to make funny noises which I could not really hear with the helmet on. Drove into the pits, took off the helmet and my fears were confirmed, as I was hoping it was something else. Car is back in my place while I gather some parts for a rebuild. I will only know what really happend when the engine is stripped.
Hoping to rebuild it with slightly different parts and make slightly more power than before. The engine just before giving in made about 170+ whp with about 18kg of torque, which is not bad for the 4G93P without any Mivec or Turbo, and running on pump gas.
Lets see how it goes!!! Watch this space!

hey mugil

stumbled upon this blog whilst researching on the SGTi/Putra.

I must say Andrew has done a great job documenting all his mods and know-how, I've always been curious behind the whole SGTi-Lotus Tuned Suspension, could you point out the main difference between the Putra & the SGTi's stock suspension set up?

I'm now in the market for 'fun' car that doesn't break the bank...its a toss up between the putra and the SGTi some pointers would be great!

Thanks in advance!

P.S. sorry to hear about the engine! Look forward to some more postings!

The SGTi uses the front ARB "rose join" link of the Evo 3 and the rear also a similar "rose join" set-up of the Evo 2. So its actally a combination he Evo3/2. This means the ARB is directly connected to the absorbers/coilovers via a link. The rear lower arm of the SGti also feature a reinforce plate at the bottom for more ridigity. Other that than, the SGti also has more sound damping materials.

The Putra on the other hand has the ARB that is directly connected to the lower arm via bushes.

There are some other differeces claimed by the SGti folks such as more weld points on the suspension turrets.

There should be discussion forums that will debate both. But my advise is to do a test drive and see which one you like. With some money both cars can be made to handle well.

Why not go for the Satria R3? ;)

Hi Jack

AHHH I finally got my answers! Thanks for the pointers. Are the ARB sizes for both the SGTi and the Putra the same diameter?

The 2nd hand price of an R3 is starting to look attractive though except the fact that I have to be paranoid about it getting stolen :@

BTW Jack your car look pretty sweet.

Putras is 23mm Front, 13mm Rear

Hi Mugil,

Just want to say thanks again for guiding me on SIC last Sunday. More works need to be done on me and the car for sure.

the polo really goes well on the straight, but rolls quite a bit, maybe look at the ARB first before you look at coilovers and stuff. Dont want to compromise the ride too much i suppose, as its more of a daily driver then a track attack monster!

and you are most welcome!
